DHCP Scope migration from Windows 2008R2

We were in phase where migration of DHCP was in place.  Since split scope or import/export of whole dhcp db was not option, we needed to export scope by scope to new DHCP server.

On new server we already had running scopes and copying whole dhcp db from old (Windows 2008R2) was not satisfying for us.
From Windows 2012R2 and latter, there are cmdlets for DHCP Server witch makes this process easier. Examples

In Windows 2008R2 we can use ” netsh DHCP server ” commands.

Below you can find example how to create export of single scope and to import procedure to new DHCP server.

Please note that using v4 switch in below command is crucial, since if you don’t use it, it will make backup of whole DHCP db and in import it can overwrite or import whole dhcp db

Export:

netsh dhcp server v4 export C:\192.168.109.0.txt "192.168.109.0"
//created txt file needs to be copied to new DHCP server

Import:

netsh dhcp server v4 import C:\192.168.109.0.txt "192.168.109.0"
//Use txt file that was created on old DHCP server.
